What the visit is like

  1. 1

    Check-up

We look at your gums and teeth and spot decay or inflammation before starting.

  2. 2

    Tartar removal

Ultrasound loosens tartar from the tooth surface and the gum margin.

  3. 3

    Polishing

The enamel is polished smooth, which slows down how fast plaque sticks again.

  4. 4

    Home care

We show you the brushing and flossing technique for your case and when the next cleaning makes sense.

Frequently asked questions

How often do I need a dental cleaning?

Usually every six months. If you smoke, wear braces or your gums bleed, every three or four months can be better.

Does a cleaning hurt?

Normally not. If gums are inflamed you may feel sensitivity; local anaesthetic can be used if needed.

Does cleaning whiten my teeth?

It brings back the tooth's natural colour by removing tartar and surface stains, but it does not lighten the shade. Whitening does that.

How long is the appointment?

Usually one visit; the time depends on how much tartar has built up.
